Touchsreens : Resistive & Capacitive

In SmartPhone Techonology, There are actually two types of touchscreen mainly used in phones:-

                                            Resistive & Capacitive.

Resistive touchscreens are made up of several layers, the topmost of which flexes under your finger or stylus, and is pushed back onto a layer behind it. This effectively completes a circuit, telling the phone which part of the screen is being pressed.it can be activated using inanimate objects such as a stylus, fingernail or a gloved finger.
The Simple Geek suggest not to use resistive displays, because -
  • It is unable to support multi-touch gestures
  • Poor visibility in direct sunlight
  • Lesser durability
  • It's top layer is made of soft, flexible material which can be damaged much more easily than glass
Capacitive touchscreens don’t rely on pressure, but rather they use electrodes to sense the conductive properties of objects, such as your finger. So, they don’t react on having an object pressing particularly hard on their surface, but will only react to certain objects.
As capacitive screens don’t need much contact at all, you can swipe across them very lightly and get just as good a response as you would with a slow, full-fingered drag.

The Simple Geek suggest you to buy phone with capacitive screens, because -
  • They are highly responsive, Even the slightest touch will activate the screen
  • Highly durable, easy to clean and resistant to scratches
  • Can also implement multi-touch gestures
  • They can use glass as the front panel.
In many phones with capacitive displays you may find the screen with "Gorilla Glass" , these type of glasses are made to bear scratches and shattering.

So there is no doubts here, go buy phones with capacitive displays.
